Best Billboard Ever

Actually, it's not a billboard. More like the absence of one.

Non-Sign II by Seattle-based art collective Lead Pencil Studio installed this sculpture just outside of Vancouver. Made from stainless steel rods that create the negative space of a billboard, it draws the viewer’s attention to the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Awesome.

Lovely Gifts at Astoria Market This Sunday

Fiber Inspiration

Some Monday morning pretty.

I have a sketch book full of quilt ideas just waiting for me to learn how to actually make them. Kimem already knows how. The Skyscape Quilt in Blue and Rust is inspired by the Kansas sky right after a thunderstorm when there are tiny breaks in the clouds and pale blues peek through. She dyes her own fabric using a scientific method that takes the weight of the fabric and dye into account to generate beautiful and subtle hues with minimal dye waste.

I was inspired to look for other unusual art quilts on Etsy and found these:

I like the graphic nature of this Black and White ZigZag Quilt by Terry Aske. The play of patterns and tones of gray remind me of an Escher print.

This quilt by CatherinesArt is also like an Escher print, but in color. Reminds me a little of TV test patterns.

Here's another take on a landscape from ForComfort. It's called Night Reflections. She has a way with blues. The next one is also gorgeous, made from silk sari riboons.

Black, Silver, Grey at Astoria Market

An intriguing mix of pattern, a play of light and shade, elegant touches of the dark. A series of gemstone beaded hoop earrings, each one slightly different, with twinkling black onyx and silvery-gray rutilated quartz. Each bead of quartz is unique, featuring a one-of-a-kind arrangement of mineral streaking through like the dark tail of a shooting star.

I'll have these plus lots of other beautiful baubles at the Astoria Market this Sunday, November 21. The holiday shopping is good, the food is good, and it's super easy to get to by train.

Made For Her

This bracelet, made from rhodonite and onyx, just found its owner. She found me at the Astoria Market this past Sunday and fell into instant like. As a designer, that's the best response I could imagine.



Rhodonite soothes the nervous system. Just holding this gemstone promotes relaxation and brings a sense of well-being. This is a balancing stone, an energetic property I tried to reflect in the design. Go Gorgeous!

I had no idea squid could be so beautiful. What a sophisticated pattern! Great post from the Etsy blog on science and art. And you know I love the dots!

Just Plain Dotty

Love these cards from {NewNew} member Rue Renee. They manage to be both mod and minimal at the same time. And they inspired me to find other polkadotted things made by {NewNew} crafters on Etsy.

Am delighted to be part of a new gift shop in Brooklyn at Cure BK in Fort Greene. In addition to some new jewelry pieces, am debuting a few handmade knitwear items as well. Stop by this evening for a preview of all the good stuff they got going on!

I Remember Paris

A few years ago, my beloved and I took a magical trip to Paris. Last month, I finally got around to developing some of my favorite images and started using them on note cards for correspondence.

One of the nicest compliments I received was that the card itself seemed like a gift.

So, as another facet of the "made for you" ethic of persuede, I've added these photo cards to my Etsy shop. Not only are they pretty, but they're green! Each photo is mounted on Earth-friendly cardstock that is 90% bamboo, a sustainable resource.

The way I see it, if you go gorgeous, you might as well write gorgeous too.
